Up until now, every single game in the City Island series has managed to impress. The primary reason these games are so fun to play is the fact that they do an excellent job of executing the fundamentals of this genre. Instead of making unnecessary changes to the tried and true formula, these games have instead prioritized on pulling off the basics perfectly and City Island 4 follows the same trend which is why, like its predecessors, it’s an absolute delight to play.
When you get into the game for the first time you’ll be introduced to all the basic gameplay mechanics through a really useful tutorial that’s been built to explain all the important aspects of the game from start to finish in a step-by-step manner. Alongside teaching players how to play the game, the tutorial also gives various incentives such as currency and experience when you complete the tasks that it assigns you.
The best part about City Island 4 is that instead of leaving you with a single island to tinker around with, the game instead has multiple different islands that you’ll get to unlock as you progress through it. Each island looks unique and because of this you’ll see that the gameplay never becomes dull since you’ll always have a brand new island to look forward to.
Onto the actual gameplay, City Island 4 has a lot of things that do an excellent job of keeping players entertained every single second they play the game. There are lots of structures to construct on land as well as near the sea. There are different types of structures as well; some buildings focus on the economic side of things, some focus on the community and some focus on technology advancement. The game also gives players lots of ways to decorate their cities so that they can make them look absolutely beautiful.
Although it’s pretty fun to play overall, one rather tedious thing about City Island 4’s gameplay is that you need to connect all your structures together through roads and pathways. This might not be that big of an issue early on but it does overcomplicate things later on when your city’s filled with lots of structures.
In terms of visuals, City Island 4 doesn’t cease to impress. The colors are bright, all the characters have been animated very nicely and overall the cities look very vibrant and lively once you’ve built them up a little bit. On top of this, the game couples its stunning visuals with some very high quality sound effects that make the experience highly immersive.
As for micro-transactions, you’ll be able to use real world money to purchase both in-game currencies that you can then use to speed-up ongoing construction tasks and setup new buildings.
City Island 4 is, all things considered, an excellent game that’s filled to the brim with fun things to do.
